Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why does my dog need grooming?

Dogs need to be groomed the same reasons why people need to be groomed to be healthy and happy. Both outdoor and indoor dogs accumulate dirt, dander, and tangles which can cause rashes, irritation, and sores. Routine grooming will help prevent these diseases and reduce vet bills.

2. What's the best style/cut for my dog?

Every dog is different so it's hard to say. The final look is completely based on the owner's preference. Our certified groomers are knowledgeable on all breeds and styles. If you don't know what you want- we usually give a modified breed specific cut. These cuts shows off the breed's qualities while being easy to maintain.

3. Why do I need to cut my dog's nails?

It's important to keep your dog's nails short to prevent walking pain or paw deformation. Usually you can cut them yourself every few weeks or have them professionally cut monthly.

4. Why is dog grooming so expensive

Here are Moochi's top 3 reasons on why dog grooming is more expensive than people grooming.

  1. People only have hair on their heads while dogs have hair on their entire body.
  2. People don't have their stylist perform sanitary trims like stomach, underpaw, and anal trims. Also, you'll also never ask your stylist to perform an anal gland expression on you.
  3. People wash and brush their hair on a daily basis while dogs, if they're lucky, get bathed and brushed once or twice a month. It's not uncommon to see matted or tangled dogs at Moochi's. Most groomers charge extra to remove them because it's a delicate and time consuming process but it's well worth it.

6. When can my puppy get its first hair cut?

Puppies can be groomed asearly as 15 weeks. Since this will be your dog's first grooming experience, we want to makes sure that it has a pleasent experience. Please make an appointment for this to happen.

7. What equipment should I have at home? What else should I know?

The bare minimum is a brush and comb. Brush out your dog before and after the bath to prevent matts and tangles. It's the best way to build a closer relationship with your dog. Additionally, preventing matts and tangles can also reduce vet bills.

8. Why can't I have an exact quote over the phone?

the way owners perceive their dogs is much diferent than how groomers perceive them. There are many factors that we weight into a quote such as: weight, coat condition, and temperment. The best way for us to give you a quote is if we can see and pet your dog in person.

9. Why can't I watch while my dog is being groomed?

Believe it or not, dogs feed off of the energy of their owners. This makes the dog excitable and more time consuming to groom. More importanly, we cannot be liable for personal injury of a curious dog owner in a busy shop. So respectfully, we will have to ask you to wait outside until we are completely finished.
